You can do the exercise both alone and in a group. The duration is about 15 minutes. Exercise can be similar to meditation, because it is not complicated, has a calming effect.
It goes like this:
- Place an object in front of you. It doesn't matter what. Toy, tool, device...
- Sit comfortably, relax and look at the chosen object for at least 1 minute. If you are alone, it is better to spend a little more, 5 minutes, but in a group, that can be a bit too long.
- Close your eyes.
- Try to recreate in your imagination what you saw... What shape was the thing? What color? Did it have bumps, pits? What size? If you put an object next to a book, which would be bigger?
- If the image is not clear or really difficult to remember - no problem, you will develop your memory and imagination by repeating this exercise. So you can open your eyes and look at the object again, for a few seconds.
Repeat this game in the future. When you learn how to reproduce simple things, take on more complex ones - sculptures, paintings, flower bouquets...
The exercise was originally told by Gediminas Beresnevičius, a lecturer at the Faculty of Communication at VU.
PS This is my opinion, but I think the exercise could be done even in bed - that is, when it's hard to fall asleep 🙂 At least this exercise really relaxes me 🙂
