Smart devices are part of being human - they perform the functions of our memory, reminders, communication and some work.
Such devices are already in use today - see the machines used by diabetics to monitor their bodies - and are likely to be used more and more often, in more and more ways.
So, are the devices we use part of a human being? Do we have to own them?
- Do technology companies have the right to control equipment that is part of a person?
- Do they have the right to determine which part of the apparatus we can redesign and how?
- Do they have the right to monitor how we use them?
- Why doesn't Apple allow you to repair your own machines, delete some apps, why do other companies charge a monthly fee just to use their hardware/software?
- Do these companies have the right to have control over human parts - organs?
So, should the rights of cyborgs already be included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
Maybe it doesn't seem relevant to you at the moment. Irrelevant and unreal. But I'm afraid that by the time your smartphone becomes part of your body, it will be too late to think about it.
Corporations already use you when you use their smart devices. Facebook and Google exploit you for advertising, and Apple traps you in their ecosystem so you won't stop buying Apple gear. Other manufacturers do too.
