Project 333: The Beginning.
The first of April this year means a little more to me than the beginning of the calendar summer.
As of today, I'm starting to participate in Project 333, which means challenging my consumer habits, improvisation, and at the same time making things easier on my closet, my washing machine, and hopefully, the time I spend in front of the mirror in the mornings. What am I talking about here? I will explain everything right away.
Project 333 is a wonderful project that aims to learn to live more simply. Courtney, who created the project, came up with the idea of wearing only 33 clothes for an entire season (that is, three months). Seems like a very small number, especially since it includes outdoor clothing and shoes? However, both Courtney and the people involved in her project believe that this amount of clothing is enough (and sometimes even too much) to live a comfortable life without burdening yourself with unnecessary, unwearable clothes and without wasting time at the closet complaining that "I have nothing to wear."
I have to admit that lately I have often had this "I have nothing to wear" or "my closet would be perfect if I still had this, this and that" problem. But do I really need anything more? Do I really have to rush and buy clothes after seeing a good sale in the store, "because it won't be so cheap later"? For a long time, I spent most of my money on clothes, but somehow I never worried about it because it made sense to me. But after discovering "Project 333" I reconsidered everything - do I really still have things? Do I really need all the ones I have? After all, it's not like everything hanging/lying/tossing in the closet is wearable - I usually choose a few favorite clothes and wear them most of the time. So, I decided to change everything and take on the challenge of the project. I have to admit that it doesn't seem very easy to me, but I really hope that I will succeed.
So, now a little about the rules of the project. The original rules are as follows:
1. You need to create a wardrobe for the season (for three months) from 33 clothes. This list includes shoes, outdoor clothing, jewelry and accessories. The list does not include underwear, bathing suit, home clothes (provided they are worn only at home), work clothes if working with uniforms, sports clothes (provided they are worn only during sports). All other clothes you have should be put in boxes and hidden until next season.
2. If a garment tears or no longer fits (due to weight gain or loss, etc.), it can be replaced with another, but it is important that the number of 33 garments is maintained — that is, if one garment is put on, the other must be removed.
3. Each participant can adapt the rules of the project to themselves - for example, if keeping only 33 clothes for someone is an unrealistic challenge, you can start with 50 and reduce this number next season. Alternatively, you can choose not to include shoes or jewelry etc. in this number.
Basic rule: no need to torture yourself. If at some point you see that you have too few warm clothes in your closet, or something like that, you can always adjust the 33. However, it is important not to indulge yourself too much and change clothes only when really it is needed.
Just so you know how hard I put together my top 33. First of all, I thought it was too fantastic to include outerwear, shoes and handbags! It's true, I decided to choose slightly easier rules - I didn't include accessories (jewelry, belts, scarves) in my list. I tried stacking the list this way and that until I finally narrowed it down to a select 33. So, here are my picks:
2 jeans
3 shirts
5 blouses
4 sweaters
6 dresses
1 jacket
4 pairs of shoes
2 skirts
1 coat
3 handbags
1 cloth bag
1 jumpsuit
And here's a closer look (sorry for the poor quality, my camera is temporarily out of town and taking pictures with my phone gave my clothes more blue than they really are):
